There’s exciting news about our Liberia program! Girls Ed has partnered with Liberia Now to support the education of Liberian girls in the Lower Virginia area on the outskirts of Monrovia.
Liberia Now, a nonprofit based in San Antonio, Texas, seeks to transform entire communities in Liberia with a variety of projects, including education. According to Allyn Andersen, the Executive Director of Liberia Now, “In the aftermath of a devastating civil war, Liberia has struggled to provide its children with access to basic education. Too often these children are left without any hope of escaping the clutches of extreme poverty. We are excited about the opportunity to expand our current scholarship program through a partnership with Girls Education International. We look forward to working with Girls Education International to provide a brighter future for Liberian girls through educational sponsorships.”
Michelle Simmons, Board Chair for Girls Ed, echoes Andersen’s enthusiasm. “As Girls Ed grows, so do our needs! I am thrilled that we have been able to establish a partnership with Liberia Now, an organization committed to our same mission, that will help ensure Girls Ed’s continued success.”
Although Liberia Now serves both boys and girls in their schools, scholarships provided by Girls Education International will continue to support the educational opportunities for underserved females in this part of the world. For more information about Liberia Now, please visit their website
