Our First Graduating Class in Liberia
Girls Education International is proud to announce that all ten of our 12th grade Liberian girls graduated from high school this June! They all took Liberian national exams this spring. These exams determine who is allowed to go on to college. Five girls passed their exams and are eligible.

We can’t support all five girls in their dream to attend college. We have selected one student, Veronica, to go to nursing college. Can you help us send another girl to college? Email us at info@girlsed.org as soon as possible.

On behalf of the girls and the Girls Education International Board of Directors, we thank you for your support of this program. Your donations are truly changing lives! Read more about our graduates…

Girls Ed Pakistan Project Girls Excel!
In March our Pakistani girls took their annual National exams. All 30 of the girls we support in Laphi and Sar Kalan passed their exams and have been promoted to the next grade.

Two of our girls placed first in their respective classes in the annual exams. Click here to find out more about our girls’ successes!

Welcome New Board Member, Loni Riley

Our newest board member, Loni Riley, completed her Master’s degree in Public Policy in May 2010 at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, where she focused on international development policy. Loni’s desire to assist disadvantaged populations has kept her involved in various volunteer efforts over the years, work with the planning & evaluation office of the Gila River Indian Community and her current position as a program coordinator with the International Rescue Committee, guiding refugees toward the achievement of stable and prosperous lives here in the U.S.

Loni loves any and all active outdoor pursuits, including rock-climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, snowboarding and cross-country skiing.

High Schoolers Raise $7,500 for Liberian Students

Most American high school girls are busy thinking about boys and grades and certainly not about students halfway across the globe.

High schoolers Kaziah White (age 16) and Clara Grainger (age 17), both sophomores at Boulder’s Fairview High School started the Liberian Education Advancement Program (LEAP) in 2010.

In June the girls presented Girls Ed with a check for $7,500, which they designated to support the Liberian high school girls.

“It feels great raising and donating the money because you know you are making a difference,” Kaziah says. Read more about these amazing teens.

Join Girls Ed as we recognizing Clara and Kaziah and their LEAP Club for their work and generosity at our upcoming “Film. Auction. Action!” fundraiser October 12 in Boulder, Colorado. Buy your ticket today for this fun film, auction and reception fundraiser!

Professional rock climber Madaleine Sorkin’s multi-media slide show tour across the Midwest and East Coast earlier this summer was a huge success!

The climbing community turned out in force to hear about Madaleine’s climbing adventures and to support Girls Education International. The MAD tour raised nearly $2,700 to continue our programs in Liberia and Pakistan. A huge thank you to everyone who donated, the awesome tour sponsors, and to Madaleine and Lizzy Scully!
