Pakistan Project Update

Unlike many things in this turbulent country, our project here continues to operate smoothly. All 30 girls from Laphi and Sar Kalan have been attending school regularly and were promoted to their respective next grades in the fall of 2012.

Through our in-country partner, Bedari, Girls Ed has continued to provide uniforms and books for the girls, as well as transportation to the Government Secondary School Buchal Kalan in north-central Pakistan’s Chakwal district.

After the shooting of 15-year-old Pakistani girls’ education activist Malala Yousafzai in October of 2012, her cause became an instant conversation around the world. With this added awareness, Girls Ed saw increased donations to the Pakistan project, funding it through 2012 and into 2013. In the face of this horrific event, it is heartwarming to see people from around the globe respond with such compassion and generosity.

Thank you for your support.

Thank you to our donors who help give 30 girls in Laphi and Sar Kalan books, uniforms, and transportation to attend school at Government Secondary School Buchal Kalan, district Chakwal, Pakistan!

March is the month of annual exams in Pakistan and students through grade 10 usually take their exams. Results are then reported, and the students are promoted to the next grade if they pass. All 30 of the girls we support took their exams and all of them passed their exams and have been promoted to the next grade.

Two of our girls placed first in their respective classes in the annual exams. Our May enews featured a story about Zofishan, one of the girls our program is supporting.  We are pleased to tell you that Zofishan placed 1st in her 6th grade class and has been promoted to 7th grade.  Another of our girls, Adila, also placed first in her 8th grade class. Adila also took the required external exam and we are anxiously awaiting her results.

Girls Ed is one of only eight organizations to be selected to be part of the Safer World Fund Campaign on Globalgiving this year.  The Safer World Fund will provide a 50% match of any donation up to $2000 made to our Pakistan project beginning on Sunday, September 11 until their $50,000 runs out.
