There are many formidable barriers to education in remote regions of Pakistan. For students living in remote villages in Pakistan, the nearest secondary school can be 20 kilometers away. Because of high transportation costs and lack of access to safe, reliable transport, it can be difficult for girls to continue their education past primary school.

The costs of secondary education can also present barriers for families who may be unable to bear the expenses. In many instances, families will elect to send their sons to school rather than their daughters because they perceive their sons as better economic investments.

We think girls are assets, not liabilities. To dismantle these barriers to education for girls and prove that girls are worth the investment, we are partnering with Bedari, a local NGO, to cover 60 girls’ school fees and secure safe transportation for their journey to the classroom, support girls through high school, expand their learning through out-of-school activities such as self-growth workshops and exposure trips, and celebrate the impact of educating girls by holding annual village-based celebratory events for alumni, their families, and their communities.
