Back to school season is here. Backpacks, new shoes, first-day photos—for most girls, going back to school isn't a question. It's a given.
For girls in rural Tanzania and rural Pakistan, it isn't.
A Given, Until It Isn't
Two countries, two different points where "back to school" stops applying to girls the way it applies to everyone else.
Two Girls, This Fall
Elisia, Tanzania, is starting university! She shared that in high school she developed greater confidence, discipline, commitment, and determination to work hard toward achieving her future goals. Girls Ed is excited to support her educational dreams.
Noor, Pakistan, is back in school with support from Girls Ed! She was unable to continue her education after primary school due to the cost of travel. She shared, “Leaving school was deeply painful for me. There is only a primary school in our village, and for further education, students must travel, which we could not afford.”
Neither of them takes "back to school" for granted. Neither should have to.
What Should Be a Given
Back to school should mean the same thing for every girl, everywhere: a seat in a classroom, a path forward, a chance to keep going. Right now, for too many girls in rural Tanzania and rural Pakistan, it doesn't.
That's what we're working to change this season—starting with girls like Elisia and Noor.
